Royal Hospital for Neuro-disability (RHN) pursues Pathway to Excellence ® accreditation
The Royal Hospital for Neuro-disability is respected nationally as one of the oldest independent charity hospitals and research centres providing rehabilitation and care for adults with complex brain injury and neurological conditions.
Following a CQC overall rating of ‘Good’ in 2021, the RHN seeks to become the first independent hospital in London to achieve Pathway to Excellence ® accreditation.
The Pathway to Excellence ® is accredited by the American Nurses Credentialing Center (ANCC), the largest certification body for advanced practice registered nurses in the US. There are currently only a handful of hospitals in the UK on the programme, however Pathway accreditation is considered an international marker for care excellence.
Achieving accreditation would mean the RHN is internationally recognised as an excellent place for nurses to work, with high job satisfaction, professional opportunity and retention and consistent delivery of outstanding patient care.
Della Warren, Director of Nursing (pictured centre), said ‘Achieving our Pathway to Excellence designation will serve as formal recognition of our journey of improvement and the excellent standards of care that happen on a daily basis at the RHN. The accreditation fits in with our corporate strategy and showcases an excellent work culture, where all staff, not just our nurses, feel valued and supported to provide the best possible care for our patients and residents. The RHN will have an international platform and we look forward to the exciting new opportunities that we will gain from joining a global community of healthcare providers, striving towards excellence.’
Justin Finbow (pictured right), Pathway to Excellence Programme Director, said ‘We are fortunate that our journey so far has created an environment that engages and inspires our workforce. The Pathway to Excellence ® is an ambitious programme for improvement, which will allow our workforce to affect and influence change, building and embedding a positive culture for everyone in the RHN community. We look forward to starting our Pathway journey and are confident we have what it takes to achieve this internationally recognised designation of excellence.’
